More cycling paths expected in west Singapore from 2024

Singaporeans living in the west will be in for a ride as new cycling paths sprout up progressively in the densely populated estates - Clementi, Bukit Batok, and Jurong West - beginning in 2024. Queenstown will also welcome additional tracks under the Islandwide Cycling Network (ICN) programme. This initiative is part of the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) overarching efforts to improve the connectivity of these neighbourhoods to key amenities while allowing residents to step up their active mobility during commutes. Construction of the cycling paths will commence as soon as ongoing feasibility studies conclude.
When the routes are up, these estates can enjoy greater accessibility to transport nodes, shopping malls, and neighbourhood centres in areas such as Boon Lay, Pioneer, West Coast, and Dover. Beyond enhanced mobility within the region, LTA is looking to reduce our carbon footprint: new tracks will be built with low-carbon concrete, which is more environmentally friendly than its conventional form. The statutory board plans to deepen collaborations with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to adopt sustainable materials for paving cycling routes.
The culmination of the ICN programme in 2030 is a cycling network stretching 1,300km across Singapore, bringing eight in 10 HDB residents within minutes of a cycling path.
