More walkways and bus lanes are incoming for towns including Marymount and Tiong Bahru.
Residents of towns including Marymount and Tiong Bahru can expect more commuting options in the near future, as the LTA has identified these estates as the next locations with which it will retool road infrastructure to better support public transport as well as walking and cycling.
The proposed changes for Tiong Bahru estate include the creation of wider footpaths and more green spaces Residents of Marymount can expect a new Transit Priority Corridor (TPC), following the success of the stretch installed along Tampines Avenue 1. This new TPC will stretch along Sin Ming Avenue to connect to the North-South Corridor at Marymount Road and Bright Hill MRT station, covering a distance close to 2km long.
This new TPC is set to get a dedicated bus lane, new cycling paths and wider footpaths.
The LTA will also launch a new six-month trial to enhance community spaces and walkability in the Tiong Bahru area, set to begin in late March 2022.
The trial will see Seng Poh Road, Eng Hoon Street and Lim Liak Street repurposed to create wider footpaths and more green spaces, supported by traffic calming measures to slow down traffic and facilitate safer crossings. These new changes, the LTA states, will make walking around the estate a safer and more comfortable experience, particularly around the Tiong Bahru market.
The LTA states that it will conduct surveys to seek feedback from the community during the six-month trial, and if the community and stakeholders are supportive, the infrastructural changes will be made permanent in a second phase of the project.
