Next generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class to get a plug-in hybrid version
06 Jan 2010|3,509 views
The decision was recently revealed by Mercedes-Benz’s research and development chief Thomas Weber, who explained that it "makes a lot of sense to bundle the high-price tech option to the sort of customers willing to pay for this sort of thing."
The next generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is expected to go on sale in 2012, and Mercedes-Benz expects the plug-in hybrid technology to eventually make their way towards the rest of the fleet as an option.
Mercedes-Benz has already previewed the technology when it showcased the Vision S500 plug-in hybrid Concept, which has a 3.5-litre V6 engine combined with an electric motor that was powered by lithium-ion batteries. Mercedes-Benz has ruled out a full electric model though, due to concerns about its range.
