Nine men charged over motor insurance scam amounting to $83,000

Nine men were charged in court yesterday for staging an accident and cheating motor insurance companies more than $83,000 in claims. The group is said to have conspired to fraudulently tell insurers that a crash had took place along Sembawang Drive in July 2009. They were then to claim for injuries and damage to their vehicles.


The Straits Times reported that the three cars involved were a Proton Gen 2, a Hyundai Matrix and a Honda Fit.
45-year old Sallahudin Ehram submitted a property damage claim to NTUC income on 1st September 2009. He will be charged for cheating his insurer for $4,500 in repair claims for the Proton. He will also face two further charges of deceiving Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore in paying out more than $10,000 in injury claims for himself and a passenger.
Sallahudin had made the claims despite there was allegedly no passenger in his car during the accident, and he was also allegedly not the driver of the vehicle and was not injured.
46-year old Ariffin MD Rais, the driver of the Hyundai Matrix, faces one charge of cheating. He had submitted a claim to NTUC Income totalling $13,000 for repairs.
Juraimi Raham, aged 37, faces two charges of cheating. He has allegedly deceived Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore in paying out $40,864 in a settlement for property damage and injury.
38-year old Mohammad Eunos Zakaria and 40-year old Shahifulah Mohamed Yusof will face six counts of cheating for their roles in allegedly coordinating the alleged conspiracy.
The other three men, 53-year old Kamis Bakar, 25-year old Azroy Mazli and 41-year old Afghani Eusope, will face two charges of cheating each for allegedly claiming to be passengers of the vehicles and claiming for personal injuries.
The court will hear the case again on 19th March.

32-year old Rudyanto Sarmani reported to his employer, Rentokil Initial Singapore, the day after the accident, who paid $1,563 for repairs to the Toyota van. He faces one count of cheating.
