Porsche deepens commitment to use sustainable aluminium

Porsche has announced that it will be deepening its collaboration with aluminium and renewable energy company Hydro.
The two firms have now specified that Porsche and its suppliers will have access to carbon-reduced aluminium with an ecological footprint of less than 4kg of CO2 per kg of aluminium. This aluminium will be produced using renewable energy, with Hydro producing the primary metal in Norway using electricity from renewable sources. Porsche states that this will reduce the carbon footprint of the light alloy by about 75% compared to the global average of primary aluminium production.
The two firm have also agreed to increase their use of secondary materials from post-consumer scrap. It is expected that by 2027/2028, Hydro will be supplying carbon-reduced aluminium with a recycled proportion of at least 75%. Porsche and Hydro are also testing the areas of the car in which aluminium with an even higher proportion of recycled material can be used.
