Porsche picks up 928 successor
06 Jul 2010|5,682 views
The old 928 chassis has once again proved its relevance in current times with the success of Panamera sedan.
And there is a strong case for the coupe. The Panamera has raked in good volumes in emerging markets including Russia and China. In total, the Volkswagen group company hopes to beat its annual sales target of 20,000 Panameras.
Launching a 928 successor, pretty much like a smaller Panamera, will involve least design interferences. Cost savings can also be achieved by taking design cues from the earlier model including a six-cylinder or eight-cylinder engine transmission and the dual clutch architecture. At the same time, a two-door coupe is not likely to cannibalise Panamera's market share.
As shown in the design sketches, the vehicle doesn't come across as a surprise in terms of design ideas. The famous by now 911 effect is being carried in this model also.
However, there is nothing coming from the company as of now and not much can be said on the basis of a design sketch only. It is well known that internally the company is facing serious debate over launching an eight-cylinder powerhouse that competes with the likes of Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz.
