Preview of the BMW M6 Convertible at the Singapore Yacht Show 2012

The new BMW M6 Convertible made its first Asian preview here in Singapore, making it its second public appearance since its recent debut at the New York International Auto Show. According to Mr Neil Fiorentinos, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia, "It is an honour to be the first country in Asia to showcase this magnificent high-performance car from BMW M just after its international debut. This is mainly driven by the growing demand for BMW M cars in Singapore and our emphasis to bring the latest and most exciting products to the doorstep of the local BMW M community."

Design wise, the M6 Convertible sports classical proportions, sporty yet elegant lines of the BMW 6 Series and the familiar design language of BMW M Automobiles while powerfully taut surfaces and precise contours underline the athletic aura of the new model. In addition, a model-specific interpretation of hallmark M styling cues includes design details which are influenced directly by technical considerations such as the cooling air required, chassis geometry and aerodynamics - highlighting the car's outstanding performance attributes.

Wide air intakes, stunningly contoured headlight units and large, smooth surfaces shape the front end of the new BMW M6 Convertible. Another eye-catching element of the car's nose is its newly designed M kidney grille, which bears an "M6" badge - a feature that isn't common amongst the rest of the models in the 'M' line-up. Taking cues from the characteristic double-spoke design of the M light-alloy wheels, the grille is black instead of common chrome.

But its has to be the LED headlamps that attracted the crowd. Its bright white, three-dimensional LED light rings are leveled off to striking effect at the top and lower edges. Providing the light are LED units, which are placed on a horizontal rib running through the centre of the units and feed its light into the reflection in front of the car, ensuring that the distinctive appearance of the twin circular headlights comes across clearly in every situation. The direction indicators – in the form of horizontally arranged LED units – are integrated into the headlight units below the light rings.

The car comes with a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology that can generate up to 560hp, a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, Active M Differential, and a whole lot of features that will serve up a particularly full-blooded M experience. Apart from the ability to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds, the BMW M6 Convertible is also defined by its mid-range agility, the precision of its turn-in and traction when accelerating out of corners, its precisely controllable handling under intense lateral forces and its stopping capability. The latest innovation design to optimise the handling of the new BMW M6 Convertible in highly dynamic driving situations are the M carbon-ceramic brakes, offered as an option for the first time.
