Production of Cayenne Diesel begins

Years ago, news of a diesel-powered Porsche would have been instantly dismissed by fans, and especially by Porsche enthusiasts. But now, it's become a reality. The Cayenne has finally received a diesel engine - a 3.0-litre V6 turbo with more torque than a 4.8-litre V8 Cayenne GTS.

Boasting also an impressive fuel consumption rate of just 9.3 litres per 100 km, and carbon dioxide emissions of just 244 g/km, the new Cayenne Diesel will be one of six different versions of Cayennes available.

It's 3.0-litre V6 engine produces 240 hp and a whopping 550 Newton metres of torque. No news yet has been released about acceleration figures.

The Cayenne Diesel will go on sale in February 2009. Fitted with the Tiptronic S automatic transmission as standard, the basic Euro price will be about € 47,250 (approx S$96,200). In Germany, the Cayenne with diesel engine, including 19 percent VAT and country-specific equipment will cost € 56,436 (approx. S$114,900).
