Set to be called the M235i coupe, the model will be based on the 2 Series coupe which is expected to be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The model is essentially a 1 Series coupe, but BMW has decided to rename the coupe and convertible variants of the 1 and 3 Series the 2 and 4 Series so they are closer aligned with the 6 Series.
The mechanicals will carryover from the M135i, so expect a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that produces 320 PS (235 kW / 315 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. It will reportedly be paired to a six-speed manual transmission, but a dual-clutch automatic should be optional. The model will be equipped with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive could be available.
