Robo-dog reduces energy costs at Mercedes-Benz plant
04 Sep 2025|64 views
Mercedes-Benz's Dusseldorf plant has been receiving help from a rather unique source: A metallic, four-legged autonomous robo-dog christened "Aris".
Aris helps to detect, among other things, so-called compressed air leaks and thus ensures that they can be repaired at an early stage. This also allows for a significant reduction of energy consumption in the plant.
This is part of the ongoing digitalisation strategy at the van plant in Dusseldorf. In the future, autonomous robotic systems will be used for predictive maintenance and logistics, with the aim of providing employees with the best possible support in their daily tasks and thus creating further efficiencies.
In addition, an autonomous drone is also being implemented to take over the counting of empty containers on the plant premises, relieving employees of time-consuming routine tasks. Both robotic systems can be integrated into higher-level cloud applications, which enable interaction with each other and, in the future, also with other robots - even across different plants.
