Rumours - Audi of Germany's potential interest in Ducati of Italy

The Ferrari of motorcycles or also commonly known as Ducati, is no doubt looking for a new owner for almost a year. Besides Aprilla and KTM, the famed Italian manufacturer of fast motorcycles is instantly recognisable especially in local roads where a sea of red Ducati Monsters are common.
It is also known that for some time, Volkswagen's Chairman, Ferdinand Piëch, has been interested in adding the Italian marque to its automobile portfolio.
Rumour or not, news from a very credible magazine from the UK, states that currently Audi might be eyeing Ducati more than Volkswagen. Yes, Audi is owned by Volkswagen so technically if Audi acquires Ducati, then by extension Ducati becomes Volkswagens new cousin or nephew or its grandchild.
Though if the sales go through, Ducati might be worth 850 million Euros (US $1.1 billion), which includes the debt figure of 800 million Euros, thus in reality Ducati might only be worth a mere 65 million Euros.
Doubtful people wondering if Audi is the right choice might want to take note that Audi had a little motorcycle heritage through its NSU (merged with Auto Union to form Audi) and DKW (merged to form the Auto Union in the 1930’s) automotive brands.
BMW will have more than enough competition on its hands as the German automaker besides manufacturing incredible cars is also popular for its aggressive sports and touring bikes. Remember the famed bike action scene from the 1997 James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies starring Pierce Brosnan and Michelle Yeoh?
Besides Audi, Volkswagen (on its own), Mahindra of India and Mercedes-Benz’s in house tuning specialists AMG have also shown interests in the sale. It is noted that AMG is a strategic marketing partner with Ducati where both AMG and Ducati’s were featured in various photo-shoots and appeared hand in hand in motor shows. Ducati even unveiled a AMG special edition Diavel just last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
We wonder, though, if Audi eventually ends up buying Ducati, will they feature sexy daytime running lights similar to their road cars?
