Saab 9-3 Convertible Independence Edition celebrates a year of Saab independence

Saab was officially sold to Spyker Cars a year ago from General Motors, and the Swedish carmaker is celebrating the occasion by releasing a unique 9-3 Convertible Independence Edition. Only 366 units of the car will be produced, to indicate the number of days that has passed since Saab achieved its independence.

The special edition is based on the 9-3 Convertible Griffin Aero, but with a unique Amber Orange metallic paint and 18-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone satin chrome and black finish. The interior also comes with orange trimmed beige sports leather seats and glove box, carbon fibre trim, a unique turbo boost gauge and orange stitched sports leather steering wheel and carpet mats with grey piping to differentiate it from standard 9-3 Convertibles.

Depending on where the car is sold, the 9-3 Convertible Independence Edition will be powered by a 1.9-litre turbo diesel with 180bhp, a 2.0-litre petrol turbo with direct injection and 220bhp, or a Biopower version that can run on any combination of petrol and E85 ethanol fuel. All three versions are available with six-speed automatic or manual transmissions.
