Skoda has revealed more details of the new Kodiaq.
First launched in 2016, the Kodiaq (read our review of the SUV here) was Skoda's first foray into the SUV market and has since been a widely successful model for the firm, with a total of 792,000 examples delivered to customers since May 2023.
The upcoming new generation Kodiaq is said to look even more distinctive, more dynamic, and more powerful than its predecessor, thanks to a sculptural front end, squared-off wheel arches, and large wheels (available in sizes from 17 to 20-inches).
At 4,758mm long, it will also surpass its predecessor in total length by 61mm. Skoda states that third-row passengers in the seven-seat version will benefit from an increase in available head room. Luggage capacity also now stands at 340 to 845 litres for the seven-seater variant, and 910 litres for the five-seater version.
Further up front in the cabin, the SUV now gets its gearshift lever located on the steering column, a first for Skoda. The car will also get a 12.9-inch central touchscreen display, and customers can now order a head-up display to complement the 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit.
The new Skoda Kodiaq is going to be available for the first time as a plug-in hybrid. This drivetrain will combine a 1.5-litre engine with an electric motor that is fed by a 25.7kWh high-voltage battery to deliver a total system output of 201bhp. This plug-in hybrid Kodiaq will get a 100km all-electric range, and can be charged at up to 50kW via a direct current source.
Petrol-only options for the Kodiaq currently include a 1.5-litre engine that produces 148bhp, and a 2.0-litre engine that produces 201bhp. Both these engines will come mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Series production of the new Kodiaq is set commence at the firm's Kvasiny plant in 2024.
