The deal required Spyker to put up $74 million (USD) in cash, plus they had to allow GM to retain $326 million (USD) worth of stock in the company.
The $74 million was divided into two payments. The last of which was not due until July 15 2010. However, Spyker elected to make the final $24 million dollar payment early, so they could move forward with their plans for the Swedish automaker.
The company will be known as Saab Spyker Automobiles NV, and they have received a $400 million (EURO) loan from the European Investment Bank EiB to fund the new company.
Saab currently manufactures cars in Sweden, and Mexico, and they plan to phase out GM dependency by reinventing their entire product line - starting with the all-new 9-5, set to début this summer.
Now that Spyker has complete control of the company, they plan to sell the following cars through Saab dealers:
The Saab 9-1
The Saab 9-3
The Saab 9-4X
The Saab 9-5
Spyker recently acquired the dealer network, Saab Great Britain from General Motors UK, and they expect to expand their US dealer network in the near future.
