Competition in the Category A electric SUV segment is set to heat up yet again.
Barely two months after the updated Tesla Model Y landed on our shores, Tesla Singapore has announced the launch of yet another new variant to the facelifted lineup that's sure to appeal to those on a tighter budget: The Tesla Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) 110.
Following in the footsteps of the Model 3 RWD 110, the variant's name references the fact that its single electric motor has a lowered peak output of 110kW - allowing it to duck under the power ceiling for a Category A COE. To jolt your memory slightly, the updated Model Y was initially launched in two trims - a RWD variant capable of 255kW (342bhp), and a Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant capable of 378kW (507bhp).
The latest launch means that Singaporean drivers have now gotten the chance to buy the Model Y with a Category A COE for the first time in the model's history.
While the Model Y RWD 110 boasts the same WLTP-rated range of 466km that the standard Model Y RWD does, its lower output means it takes a more leisurely 9.6 seconds to hit 100km/h from rest (compared to the latter's 5.9 seconds).
Additionally, the gap in COE premiums between Category A and Category B now also means that the Model Y RWD 110 is retailing at more than $20,000 less than the Model Y RWD. (Correct as of press time.) Meanwhile, its lower power output means its annual road tax of $1,562 is less than half of the latter's $3,478.
Apart from announcing the Model Y RWD 110, Tesla Singapore will soon expand its Tesla Supercharging Network on our shores, which is set to introduce four additional locations across the East, West and South regions of the island.
The brand now also offers its Tesla Home Charging Program to customers, which provides new owners with a complimentary Tesla Wall Connector (valued at $790), bundled together with a two-year warranty for both STRATA and non-STRATA landed properties and a one-time maintenance session.
