The first unit of the all-new BMW M2 CS has arrived in Singapore, and was showcased in conjunction with BMW Group Asia's 40th anniversary celebrations at Publico Ristorante.
Being an extremely limited model that will only be produced for a year, all units of the visceral, hotted-up M2 allocated to our market have already been snapped up.
The M2 CS improves upon an already impressive base car - power has been increased to the level of the M3 and M4 Competition
Built upon the current-generation BMW M2, the M2 CS improves upon an already extraordinary level of performance. While the base M2's engine is already a potent one, BMW has tweaked the engine to squeeze out a total of 523bhp and 650Nm - on par with the M3 and M4 Competition.
Stiffer engine mounting has also been employed for a direct transmission of power to the drivetrain. With all these tweaks, and with power sent solely to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, the M2 CS is able to complete the century sprint in just 3.8 seconds, and carries on to achieve an electronically-limited top speed of 302km/h.
The power bump isn't the only trick on the M2 CS. To create a seriously performance-focused version of the M2, the team at BMW M has made many other changes that have resulted in a lower weight and even more aggressive styling.
Extensive use of CFRP, including the M2 CS-specific boot lid with an integrated ducktail, has resulted in a 30kg weight loss
The extensive use of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) on a multitude of interior and exterior components, including the M Carbon roof and the M2 CS-specific lightweight CFRP boot lid with an integrated ducktail, has resulted in a 30kg weight loss. Forged M light-alloy wheels are also fitted as standard, keeping unsprung weight to a minimum for even more performance.
Additionally, the chassis and brakes have also been upgraded and optimised to match the increased performance of the CS. Lowered by eight millimetres, the M2 CS receives bespoke tuning for its springs, dampers and chassis control systems - all for an even higher level of driving dynamics.
Settings for Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and M Dynamic Mode have also been optimised to meet the demands of track driving. While an M Compound braking system comes as standard, owners wanting even more braking performance can opt for the M Carbon ceramic brake system.
On the exterior, the M2 CS stands out with its front splitter, exclusive M kidney grille, carbon mirror caps, M Carbon roof, the exclusive CFRP boot lid and the CS-specific rear diffuser.
Inside, the M2 CS has been peppered extensively with CFRP too, with M Carbon bucket seats holding the driver and passenger securely during spirited drive. CS-specific logos can also be found on multiple locations within, setting the car apart from the standard M2.
The BMW M2 CS lands in Singapore with a retail price of $660,888. However, as mentioned earlier, all units are already spoken for - including the Velvet Blue metallic example showcased here.
