"Fall in love again", is the message Porsche wants to drive home with the launch of its updated 911.
62 years after the model first made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, this latest 992.2 generation of the 911 is now gracing our own shores, arriving here just ahead of Valentines Day. The car was launched at an intimate love-themed space at the Helutrans gallery, located at Tanjong Pagar Distripark.
The updated Porsche 911 now comes with redesigned head lights and and gets enlarged cooling vents at the front
Updated from the model we first drove here in September 2019, this new 911 is launching here in its Carrera variant, which continues to be powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine. Its turbochargers, however, are now taken from the previous 911 GTS, while its intercooler is also now shared with the 911 Turbo and now sits directly under the rear lid grille, above the engine.
These upgrades allow the sports coupe to now deliver a total output of 389bhp alongside a peak torque of 450Nm and allow it to sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.1 seconds. Opt for your car with the Sport Chrono package, however, and this time will drop to 3.9 seconds.
Step into the cabin of this new 911 and there's also plenty that will get the oxytocin flowing.
The car now makes use of a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, which offers a total of seven views, including an exclusive Classic display inspired by the traditional five-tube Porsche dial design with a central tachometer.
This display is paired with a 10.9-inch infotainment screen that now allows customers to better customise the available driving modes. The Porsche 911 also now comes (for the first time) with an engine start button, while an inductive smartphone charger now rests within the car's centre console storage compartment.
The cabin of the Porsche 911 now gets a push-start button alongside a new 12.6-inch curved fully digital instrument cluster that offers up to seven different views
If all these upgrades to the updated 911 Carrera are not enough to get the heart pounding, its new exterior will. The car now comes with redesigned head lights, which now sport more pronounced quad-LED elements. Customers may opt to have their car with the optional HD-Matrix LED head lights, which are able to illuminate the road to more than 600m while offering a driving-mode-dependent dynamic cornering lighting.
The rear of the car has also seen significant changes, starting with a new rear grille as well as a redesigned rear bumper and rear light strip, both designed to give the car added visual width when viewed from the back.
Examples of the Porsche 911 Carrera headed to Singapore will come with features including speed-sensitive power steering, 14-way electrically adjustable seats with the Memory package, keyless entry, and a Bose Surround Sound system.
Attendees to the event also got to see The Red Thread: Past, Present, Future artwork at the launch event, and also had the opportunity to bring back their own 911 poster
Those looking for a more emotional driving experience still will note that the six-speed manual gearbox-only 911 Carrera T is also now available to order. This gearbox is operated via an open-pore walnut shifter, for a more special visual and tactile experience. The model also comes with rear-axle steering and a more direct steering setup to further raise its handling prowess.
And if its more power you're after, the Carrera S is also now available to order here in Singapore. The model comes with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder that produces a total of 473bhp alongside a peak torque of 530Nm and gets upgrades including Porsche's Torque Vectoring system as well as upgraded brakes and steering.
Those invited to the event also got to get a look at the recently commissioned artwork,The Red Thread: Past, Present, Future, by Red Hong Yi. This piece features the iconic 911 flyline laid across 60 shades of red. Guests also got the opportunity to design and print their own 911-themed poster to bring home.
For those smitten, the new Porsche 911 Carrera will be on display at the Porsche Studio from 14 February 2025.
