Vettel claims victory in Japan while Alonso crashes out

Vettel revives title hopes, Alonso crashes out, Kobayashi finished a high third while Massa claims podium after nearly two years. The Japanese grand prix was indeed a true thriller.

The safety car was out for just two laps, and thereafter it was a cruising victory for Vettel. Alonso left the Japanese grand prix with no additional points after another first-corner disaster that a puncture and eventually his retirement from the race. Alonso's brush with Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus, left the Spaniard spinning with a punctured left-rear tyre in the first lap-first corner. Other incidents that occurred concurrently saw Romain Grosjean in the second Lotus, hitting Red Bull's Mark Webber while Williams' Bruno Senna collided with Mercedes' Nico Rosberg.
