Volkswagen gives the Phaeton a facelift
25 Apr 2010|4,108 views
The facelifted Phaeton features bi-xenon headlight units complete with LED running lights and a new grille with two pronounced horizontal bars. Redesigned front fenders join a revised front bonnet and bumper, which comes with chrome strips and a set of LED foglights. At the rear there are restyled lights and bumper, and new alloy wheels finish off the cosmetic changes.
Inside, the Phaeton has a new steering wheel and a colour electronic display in front of the driver, which provides the option of Google Maps on the RNS810 satellite navigation system. New trim finishes complete the interior upgrades, while customers also have the choice of either two or three seats for the rear bench.
The Phaeton will be offered in a short wheelbase version, which measures 5060mm long, as well as a long wheelbase version, which adds an additional 120mm to the length. The introduction of the long wheelbase variant is in response to the popularity of such models in China, where Volkswagen-owned Audi offers lengthened versions of the A4, A6 and A8 models, and rivals Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volvo also market the 5-Series LWB, E-Class LWB and S80L respectively.
Volkswagen will provide the Phaeton with a choice of four engines. They are a V6 petrol unit that produces 276bhp, a V6 TDI turbo diesel with 236bhp which can go from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 237km/h, a 330bhp petrol V8 engine, as well as the top-of-the-range petrol W12 that puts out 444bhp.
