The new Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion - one of the world's most fuel efficient family cars - is now available for order in the U.K. This car offers a fuel economy of 37.5km/L on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of just 85g/km. Yet like its predecessors, it still has all of the Golf's traditional attributes of practicality, comfort and safety.

The reduction in the car's combined fuel consumption has been achieved through lightweight design (including 26kg less weight in the drivetrain and 37kg less in the body), engine-related modifications and a collection of other measures such as super low rolling resistance tyres with higher air pressure, as well as Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems that are standard in all new Golfs.
At the heart of the new Golf BlueMotion is a 1.6-litre 110bhp commonrail TDI from the new EA288 engine series (producing 5bhp more than non-BlueMotion models). The four-cylinder 16-valve unit develops its maximum torque of 250Nm from just 1,500rpm up to 3,000rpm.
Prices for the new Golf BlueMotion start at £20,335 (S$39,000) for the three-door and £20,990 (S$40,300) for the five-door, with specification based on that of the standard Golf S. First deliveries of the new Golf BlueMotion is expected in August 2013.

The new Golf BlueMotion's fuel economy is 15 percent better than that of the previous generation model which emitted 99g/km. Together with its 50-litre fuel tank, the new Golf BlueMotion has a theoretical range of about 1,561km.
