Volkswagen rolls out the 100,000th Scirocco

The particular milestone car was a Scirocco R 2.0 TSI with Rising Blue Metallic paint, a Titan Black interior, GPS navigation, Park Pilot reverse parking sensors, and a sunroof, and was built at Volkswagen's Autoeuropa plant in Portugal.

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, the Scirocco R is able to produce 261bhp and 350Nm of torque, which enables the car to go from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds with a manual gearbox, or 6.4 seconds when fitted with Volkswagen's DSG transmission.

The current Scirocco is the third in Volkswagen's history, with the company having previously offered two generations of coupes with the name from 1974 to 1992, with 795,650 units built. According to Andreas Hinrichs, Autoeuropa Plant Manager, "The Scirocco is one of the most important cars that we produce. For myself personally, it was a moving moment."
