Volkswagen Singapore is giving drivers a look at its current and upcoming models at Volkswagen Electric City, an EV-only event that runs from 11-12 May 2024.
Held at the Volkswagen showroom along Alexandra Road, Volkswagen Electric City sees the launch of no fewer than seven electric models from the Volkswagen (VW) and Skoda brands.
The event also showcased four EV models from Volkswagen and Cupra. The latter is the high-performance offshoot of the Seat marque.
VW's new electric model range starts with the ID.4 and ID.5. Both are essentially SUVs, but the difference between the two is that the former has the typical SUV body style with a vertical tailgate, while the latter has a sloping, fastback-style tailgate.
Both the ID.4 and ID.5 are powered by a single electric motor that sends 282bhp and 545Nm of torque to the rear wheels. These figures enable the ID.4 to complete the century dash in 6.7 seconds. In terms of driving range, VW claims the 77kWh battery can provide up to 550km (WLTP).
The ID.5's more aerodynamic fastback body style, on the other hand, enables it to travel slightly further - 556km to be exact. Both models can accept DC charging speeds of up to 135kW, so under the right conditions, the battery can be juiced up from 10% to 80% in 33 minutes. In comparison, it takes an hour and 10 minutes to do this with a 50kW DC charger.
Inside, both the ID.4 and ID.5 maximise space for occupants by housing the battery pack beneath the passenger compartment. This also results in a nearly flat rear floor for both models. With the rear backrests up, the boot capacities of the ID.4 and ID.5 are 543 litres and 549 litres respectively.
Aimed at buyers seeking greater sportiness, on the other hand, are the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX. They can be considered the 'GTI' variants of the two models, as they have increased power, responsiveness and handling.
The GTX model powertrain features two electric motors that are fed by the same 77kWh battery. With 335bhp and 545Nm of torque, the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX only take 5.4 seconds to go from rest to 100km/h. They can accept a higher charging speed of 175kW, which allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes.
Making its official debut in Southeast Asia is the Skoda Enyaq, which is available in three versions: Enyaq, Enyaq Coupe, and Enyaq Coupe RS. The Enyaq has a traditional SUV body style, while the Enyaq Coupe has an 'SUV-coupe' body with a more dynamic, fastback-style tailgate.
The Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe are both propelled by a single electric motor capable of 282bhp and 545Nm of torque, which zip the models from zero to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds. The Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe offer even better range than their ID.4 cousins, with the Enyaq able to travel up to 565km and the Enyaq Coupe managing up to 576km.
Skoda's range-topping EV is the Enyaq Coupe RS, which boasts two electric motors that deliver a combined 335bhp and 545Nm of torque. At full tilt, the century sprint takes just 5.5 seconds, and the model has a maximum range of 547km.
Electric City will also give visitors a glimpse of upcoming EV models. These include the much-anticipated ID. Buzz, a retro-inspired MPV that takes its design cues from the Volkswagen Type 2. VW Singapore is accepting 'registrations of interest' for the ID. Buzz, which is offered in configurations for five, six or seven passengers.
Also on display is the second-generation ID.3. This electric hatchback, which offers an entry point to the ID family, is equipped with a 58kWh battery that provides it with a driving range of up to 500km.
Fastback fans will also have something to look forward to, as they can check out the ID.7, Volkswagen's flagship electric model. Details are still scant at this stage, but the brand says the ID.7 is the first in its segment to have an augmented-reality head-up display as standard. It's able to cover up to 615km as well, giving it the greatest range of any ID model to date.
Also making an appearance at the event is the Born, Cupra's first electric model. This electric hot hatch boasts 322bhp, a 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds, and an estimated range of 560km. The Born is expected to be available in Singapore in early 2025.
Dr. Kurt Leitner, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Singapore, said: "As a global automotive leader, we proudly present the Volkswagen Group's core brands all in one place. With many models debuting in Southeast Asia, this underscores our commitment to the region and Singapore as a key market."
"Visitors can explore and purchase models like the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5, as well as the Skoda Enyaq range. Additionally, we are excited to showcase Volkswagen's ID.3, ID.7 and ID. Buzz along with a sneak peek of CUPRA's first EV, the Born."
"Beyond cars, families can enjoy pet-friendly activities, live performances, and diverse dining options. We are confident that Electric City will provide an unforgettable experience for all attendees."
Volkswagen Electric City will take place from 11-12 May 2024. The showroom, located at 247 Alexandra Road, will open from 10am to 9pm on 11 May and from 10am to 8pm on 12 May.
