Volkswagen Wolfsburg starts production of updated Golf

Volkswagen has announced that series production of the updated Golf has started at its Wolfsburg site.

The first car to roll off the assembly line was a 'Style' trim vehicle, finished in anemone blue metallic. The car interestingly, makes it off the plant almost exactly 50 years since the very first series Golf was built in Wolfsburg.

Volkswagen states that its Wolfsburg plant has been responsible for more than half of the 37 million examples of the Golf that have been produced to date, amounting to an average of 400,000 units per year.

The plant recently celebrated the completion of its 48 millionth vehicle. The Golf is further the most-built model at the plant, with a production volume of some 20 million vehicles. 12 million examples of the Volkswagen Beetle have been built in Wolfsburg between 1945 and 1975, and just under 3.5 million examples of the Tiguan have been built at the site since the start of production in 2007.
