Daihatsu Terios

This is an old car model that is no longer for sale by the local distributor since Jul 2017.

Editorial Review

Daihatsu's Terios isn't exactly a newcomer, nevertheless it has proven to be as popular as Toyota's Rush-G, but just what is the obsession with this newfound niche? We spin it, er, take it for a spin..

I have driven this car for 8 years and still going strong. I must say, it is really a great car that has yet to give me any problem (maybe is pure luck). Worth every single cent to drive this car.

icon image
What I Like

Stability and reliability. Safety is very important and this car does make it happen.

icon image
What I Dislike

it could be better if it is 1.6l. other than that nothing I do not like...

I've had this car for 2 years now. Bought it 2nd hand at 5.5 years old.

It is reliable, has spacious interior and a commanding drive position.

Its a mini SUV, so I never worry about rough roads in Tuas (where I work) or pools after heavy rain. My wife is very much in love with how safe she feels when in the car. It's surprisingly low on FC.

Before I bought it, I was expecting 8km/L due to its size. But I'm getting much better numbers.

Simple engine means not hard to find workshops that know what to do.

icon image
What I Like

Reliable

Many workshops know what to do, easy to find parts

Commanding and confident drive

Low FC for its size. On 17" rims, I'm getting:

10-11km/L for 80%/20% city/highway.

12.5-14km/L for 20%/80% city/highway

Rear seats can recline for sleepy passengers and fold down for cargo.

icon image
What I Dislike

Noise from engine and wind. (Road noise depends on tyre choice just like any other car)

Car feels heavy for the 1.5L engine and fairly high body roll (doesn't bother me, I'm not a sprinter)

Hard suspension

Some car wash/detailing shops consider it a full size SUV, which means they charge more though I find it's really not that big.

This was the first time I have owned a SUV. Have looked around the market and found this to be the most value for money. And it's also a true SUV with 4WD. Typically SUVs are drinkers, but this is 1 frugal workhorse SUV. I have never gone off road with this, so I'm not sure of it's off road worthiness.

icon image
What I Like

It's fuel economical, true AWD SUV.

Parts and maintenance are relatively inexpensive. No major repairs except for wear and tear items. Normal servicing for oil change and filters costs less than $100 per trip.

Very good road presence, as you can also see further ahead of traffic

Easy to manoevre in and around city driving and parking is a breeze

icon image
What I Dislike

Has a very uninspiring sedan interior that look like altis or vios. Will be better if it has more modern or rugged interior to fit this SUV.

Better noise insulation - as SUV tends to have bigger road and wind noise

Driving beyond 120kmh feels a bit floaty at times.

More power added to this SUV will certainly make a better drive.

This car (Rush) have been with me for 5 years. Super reliable and 90% of the car still on stock. Very impress with the performance prior to the CC. Although my millage is super high, this car still in good shape. All you need to to maintain it. Parts are less expensive too

icon image
What I Like

Smooth flow on steady speed. Stable and important, fuel economy.

What I Dislike

Cabin too small, not much features

After driving the car for 4 years, there is sound starting to come out of the interior of the car. When I sent my car for servicing, the customer service was not very polite. They promised to return my car but in the end keep delaying, unreliable in their words. Car in work shop for five days and they dont even offer replacement car, lousy service.

icon image
What I Like

The car is tall enough and you can adjust the height of the car seat.

The exterior is good looking.

icon image
What I Dislike

The comfort not so good, especially if seated at the back. Its a bit rocky.

Daihatsu Terios is Toyota Rush's best friend, i suppose. They both look the same.

The terios is nice from all angles to look at, especially at the front end. It has a macho 'face' and tall presence when viewed from other saloon cars.

Reasonable sized car. Can sit 2 fully grown adults in front and 3 adults in the back even for long distances.

It has a responsive engine and engaging to drive.

It handles well too but has abit of body roll due to high ride height.

FUel efficient at 12.34km/l combined (4wd with 2wd)

Never has the stucky feeling and has high grip levels due to permanent 4wd found on many leading more expensive offroaders such as land rovers, hummers, toyota land cruiser and others.

Also comes with e diff lock on 4wd models.

Very safe because it has 4 stars EURO Ncap.

Has the reliable feeling too.

One of the most appropriate cars to drive in singapore. As singapore has Smooth roads, speed limits.

Powerful power-to-weight ratio engine. 103bhp

Cheap and durable makes it cheap to maintain.

Worry free for 3 years (as of now) due to free warranty.

Good car. good car. cant wait for the next model to be launched.

icon image
What I Like

Good ride height.

Good Cool Car feeling

Responsive and reliable engine

Good engine vocals( esp at high revs sounds like a v8 engine )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OC9OPitqXI

Rear Wheel Drive ( usually found in high-end cars these days. 4wheel drive with 4wd lock also available)

Good lasting looks from all angles( design still looks good 10 years from now)

Safe - 4stars EURONcap

icon image
What I Dislike

Nothing. However, I prefer the terios to have a diesel engine for better fuel economy. The petrol is very good but do they consider making the terios more rugged and economical if they can?

Whats more, daihatsu is good at lorries which have diesel engines.

A toyota rush is exactly the same but in rwd (one of the few only cars with rwd in a small car besides BMW 1 series), daihatsu badges replaced with toyota badges and possibly some mods as it has 109bhp compared to terios' 103bhp.

I have tried Toyota Vios, Altis and Honda Jazz before buying this car. I would say that this is the best I have tried so far

icon image
What I Like

Solid car with good safety features. My car was the first car in a 4-car collison and it barely had a dent!

I was driving along Upp Cross Street, near the Circle Line construction when I encountered a sudden downpour. A Comfort cab was trapped in the flash flood and had smoke coming out of its bonnet. I was in a hurry and it was a one-way street with no visible U-turn option. I decided to bash thru'. as I did I thought I was in a submarine. I emerged thru' and escaped the flash flood! That really made me glad that I chose this car!

icon image
What I Dislike

The interior is pretty "standard". You will need to buy your own DVD player, GPS system and other add-ons.

I test drove this one about a year ago and was put off by the poor performance and the "scary" handling of the car! This mini SUV is really under power and the auto transmission doesn't seem to know which gear it should be in. Anyway i switched to second opinion and settled with something else much more better in terms of performance and handling. A humble Jimny!

icon image
What I Like

Nothing much.

icon image
What I Dislike

Very lousy service attitude from the showroom's sales person. Wonder why they still can survive the competitive SUV market?

Terios is an awesome vehicle. I own one and and I love it. its small enough to be good to handle, big enought to get even your refrigerator inside, high enough as an SUV, rough enough to handle any road conditions, moreover 4wh drive make its a great vehicle. Go for it.. trust me you will never repent. The dealer in singapore is the best dealer I have ever visited very supportive pre and post sales and they have a good network as well. This car is very well suited for ladies also as the seating is high and car is not that long and hence easy to park. Anything and everything you want is in it..

Most suitable for those who only interested in a nice SUV and have tight budget. But interior is outdated and performance is not what you should look into when buying this car. As Style, is his only strong point. The rest is average...
