Omologato pays tribute to iconic Porsche 917 with limited edition watch

Omologato has honoured quite possibly the greatest and most iconic race car of all time, the Porsche Salzburg 917, with a stunning, limited edition timepiece.
Inspired by the 917's design and carrying the scintillating style of the car itself, Omologato's watch gives buyers the chance to own a piece of motorsport history and pay homage to a truly remarkable machine. First launched in 1969, Porsche Salzburg's 917 was conceived to compete in the World Sportscar Championship after new rules allowed brands to produce 25 racers, rather than 50.
And although race success was hard to come by in its inaugural year, the 917 more than made amends in 1970. At the Le Mans 24 Hours, Germany's Hans Herrmann and British driver Richard Attwood navigated the stunning Porsche to victory, seeing off stiff competition from the likes of several Ferrari 512s and the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33. Such was its brilliance in the race that the car was chosen to play a leading role in Steve McQueen's 1971 film 'Le Mans', and its iconic status continued to grow from then on.
Omologato is offering the 917 watch in strictly limited numbers, with only 200 being made. Lucky owners will receive an ownership certificate, together with a bespoke case, and those who pre-order can choose the number of their timepiece. The Omologato 917 is priced at £339 ($576). Pre-orders can be placed on the Omologato website, with deliveries due in January 2017.
