Singapore Children's Society has received a total donation sum of S$100,000 from Borneo Motors Singapore at the 27th Edition of Toyota Classics. The event was held at the iconic Capitol Theatre which was filled to near capacity that evening. CEO of Borneo Motors Mr. Koh Ching Hong joined Mr. Shinya Kotera, Managing Officer for Toyota Motor Corporation, to present the cheque to the Chairman of Singapore Children's Society, Mr. Koh Choon Hui last Friday, 4th of November.
This year's Toyota Classics event marked the start of Singapore's leading car distributor Borneo Motors 50th Anniversary celebration as well as the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50).
Said Mr Koh Ching Hong, "We are delighted to have kickstarted our 50th Anniversary celebrations on a heartwarming note. We have more surprises in line with our anniversary celebrations leading up to next year which will serve to remind Singapore that Borneo Motors and Toyota have been its proud partner for nearly five decades, and we'll continue to be its loyal companion on our local roads for decades to come."
With the theme, 'Music that Moves Lives', this year's edition of Toyota Classics aimed to touch the lives of people both within and beyond the concert hall. The charity concert featured a rousing performance by the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra from Poland, which made its Asian debut. The Baltic Neopolis Orchestra has performed widely in Europe since 2008 and won the Polish Grammy for Best Music Album in 2015.
The orchestra framed the perfect musical backdrop for violinist Vasko Vassilev, who masterfully presented pieces arranged by Singapore-born pianist and composer Pamela Tan Nicholson.
This year's programme marked a musical milestone for Toyota Classics with the introduction of 'Singphony', with the orchestral members playing and singing opera masterpieces including Puccini's Madama Butterfly and Turandot, Verdi's La Traviata and Bizet's Carmen, all woven into delightful stories to thrill and delight audiences of all ages.
Another highlight of Toyota Classics was a song presentation by Singapore Raffles Music College made up of vibrant and talented singers who not only performed with the orchestra, but were also nurtured by the orchestral musicians.
