The regional media presentation of the brand new 911, in Carrera S and Carrera 4S variants, took place in Auckland, New Zealand.

The new 911 (internally designated as the 992) is the eighth generation of the iconic rear-engined sports car produced by Porsche.

The evolution of its unmistakable design highlights a more muscular look, featuring significantly wider wheel housings, a wider body width, and a redesigned rear dominated by a variable-position rear spoiler and the seamless, elegant light bar.

More importantly, the interior is completely new. The dashboard features recessed instrument clusters, taking inspiration from classic 911 models from the 1970s.

On either side of the central tachometer are two thin, frameless and free-form displays that can display a variety of information for the driver.

The centre console has also undergone extensive changes. One of which is a brand new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a 10.9-inch touchscreen display.

Located underneath the screen are five buttons offering instant access to key vehicle functions, allowing a more intuitive and seamless operation of the PCM.

Of course, with this new generation model, Porsche has also enhanced the turbocharged flat-six engine. It now produces 443bhp and 530Nm of torque, an increase of 23bhp and 30Nm of torque from the previous generation Carrera S model.

Paired to an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission as standard, the uprated engine allows the rear-wheel drive Carrera S to complete the century sprint in 3.7 seconds.

Thanks to more grip, the all-wheel drive Carrera 4S accelerates from 0-100km/h slightly quicker, in 3.5 seconds.

This makes both cars 0.4 seconds quicker to 100km/h than their respective predecessors. At the same time, the optional Sport Chrono Package further helps to shave an additional 0.2 seconds off the timing.

The new 911 also packs enhanced safety and assistance features. A newly developed Wet mode is a world-first, and is included as standard. It detects water on the road, preconditions the stability control and anti-lock brake systems accordingly, and warns the driver.

Meanwhile, a camera-based warning and brake assist system, also fitted as standard, detects the risk of collision with other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, and initiates emergency braking if necessary.

Additional optional equipment available include Night Vision Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Emergency Assist.

The new Porsche 911 is expected to be launched in Singapore in July 2019.

The rear-wheel drive Carrera S is expected to cost $546,588 and the all-wheel drive Carrera 4S, $584,088 (prices excluding COE).
