As part of its reveal of the Civic e-HEV Hybrid, Honda has also confirmed that it plans to further expand its electrified lineup in 2023 with three new SUVs.
The rapid lineup expansion will be the firm's most aggressive in recent years, with new additions said to include an all-electric vehicle aimed at the B-segment, already previewed as the e:Ny1 Prototype. This new vehicle, Honda states, will offer a unique blend of dynamics, technology and design, targeted at families shopping for their first electric vehicle.
Also forming part of this product offensive is a C-segment SUV, which will get a full hybrid drivetrain. And finally adding to the lineup is the all new CR-V, said to be offered with both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time in Europe.
Honda also states that it remains committed to investing in a range of zero emission technologies which include the development of solid-state batteries, swappable battery systems, carbon neutral fuels and hydrogen cells.
It plans to increase the proportion of electric and fuel cell vehicle unit sales ratio to 40% of its total sales by 2030, and to 80% by 2035. The company will also end the sale of internal combustion engine automobiles globally by 2040.
