As we took a train ride from the town of Kinarut Town to Papar Town, we took the opportunity to catch up with Sashi Ambi (SA), Corporate Communications Manager, BMW Malaysia and Kidd Yamm (KY), Product Specialist, BMW Malaysia to find out more about BMW X vehicles.
SGCM: What exactly does it mean to drive an X car, regardless of the model and variant?
SA: In Malaysia, the market for X vehicles is definitely there. There are multiple terrains and it's beautiful to drive around. With the availability of BMW X cars, there are options for customers to choose from aside from sedans. For example, the X5 can also be suitable for a 7 Series customer. It's luxurious, premium and very versatile. For the X1 - because it's young and urbanised - it can also be for 3 Series buyers. And it's also the same for the X3. The X cars portray an all round perspective.
SGCM: Then what about the BMW X6? Is it a standalone?
SA: The X6 is like the 6 Series. People who like that car want to stand out. It's the kind of car that you would want to be seen in.
KY: The X6 is basically the epitome of the X models. It has the functionality and looks of a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV).
SCGM: You guys claimed that the X cars are the best in the AWD segment. What is it about your xDrive system that makes it so different from your competitors?
SA: The xDrive is a very intelligent and intuitive system. It's not fixed to a ratio of 40:60 like some of the other AWD cars. Even on different driving conditions, 100% torque transfer to either the front or rear axle is possible and it works well with our Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system. It gives the car a very dynamic stability through a proactive approach. The transfer of torque is in mere milliseconds.
SGCM: So which is the best-selling X car, then, in Malaysia?
KY: In terms of volume, it's the X1. This is also because of the price offering. It's an entry level X car and it's getting a lot of attention in Malaysia.
