Sold from 1966-1976, the Interceptor cost twice as much as an E-Type Jaguar. And since it was assembled in England, it broke down just as much as the Jag.
Never the less, Jensen managed to sell around 6k Interceptor's to wealthy, style conscious people like Farrah Fawcett, Princess Anne, Tony Curtis, and Cher.
Well, a new British company, aptly called Jensen International Automotive, is offering a fully restored, and modernized version of the legendary Interceptor.
Called the Jensen Interceptor S, they take an old Interceptor, and strip it down completely. Then, they rebuild it using modern components.
JIA chucks the Chrysler V8, and installs a new GM LS3 6.2 litre V8 under the bonnet. Power is sent through either a GM 4-speed automatic, or a 6-speed manual.
Out back, the Interceptor S gets a fully independent rear suspension, with a limited-slip differential. The front suspension gets reworked too. And, an AP 6-piston brake system is added.
These changes amount to an Interceptor that can get from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds. Keep the hammer down, and you'll eventually see the exciting side of 160 mph.
The Jensen Interceptor S looks like an exciting way to experience automotive history.
And speaking of history, the new Jensen starts at 105,000 pounds, nearly twice the price of a modern Jaguar XK.
