Audi has announced that it will to take a 100% stake in the Sauber Group, as part of its plans to strengthen its commitment to Formula One and to accelerate its preparations for its participation in the 2026 season of the sport.
The firm states that it has appointed Oliver Hoffmann, former Board of Management of Audi AG with responsibility for the Technical Development division, as the person responsible for its Formula One programme and its General Representative. The new position, Audi states, will unite three pillars of its Formula One programme: Its stake in Sauber, development of the power unit by the Audi Formula Racing GmbH at its Neuburg site, as well as the strategic steering of its Formula One programme. Hoffmann's role as Head of Audi's Technical Development division will be taken over by Audi CEO Gernot Dollner. Audi states that Dollner will continue to build on Hoffmann goal of shortening development times and building more efficient structures at Audi.
Andreas Seidl, meanwhile, current CEO of Sauber Motorsport, will be responsible for the implementation of Audi's Formula One project as well as the management of the Audi Formula One Team. Seidl will also be the face of the future Audi Formula One Team.
