For the first time since 1930, the first Speed Six customer car has left Bentley's Mulliner workshop and will be dispatched to the U.S.A to existing Mulliner customer John Breslow, who will add the car to his Blower Continuation series.
Crafted by hand over the course of eight months, it is the first of 12 Speed Six Continuation Series cars. Sporting a Parsons Napier Green bodywork on a black-painted chassis, its iconic face features twin round chrome headlamps cloaked in protective mesh, and separated by a large number '4' on the radiator.
Its cockpit is said to be splashed with authenticity, with every gauge, switch, and control exactly the same as those on the Speed Sixes that won Le Mans in 1930. Its rust leather and carpet also pair nicely with the exterior bodywork. The car sports a new 6.5-litre race spec engine delivering up to 205bhp, with higher outputs attainable with the aid of modern ingenuity.
To celebrate Bentley's first ever win at Le Mans in 1924, the Benjafield Racing Club hosted a 24-hour endurance event at the famous Algarve circuit of Portimao. With one of the contestants entering a Blower Continuation Series car and completing the race, it became the first factory-built Blower to finish a 24-hour event.
Regarded as the most successful Bentley racing car ever produced, the Speed Six Continuation Series car was produced using the same manufacturing processes as the original car from the 1920s.
