BMW Group to acquire Alpina brand name

The BMW Group will soon have a new addition as it welcomes the Alpina brand into its fold.
The group states that it is working to secure the rights to the performance brand name, although this move is still subject to what it terms are suspensive conditions which include approval by the relevant antitrust authorities.
The move, BMW states, comes as part of a strategic realignment that will secure the long-term viability of the Alpina's operations as the transformation towards electromobility and increasing regulation worldwide result in significantly higher risks for small-series manufacturers.
No financial details of the acquisition have been revealed, although BMW does also state that it will not acquire shares of Alpina as part of this deal. Alpina will also continue to use its engineering expertise in developing, manufacturing, and selling BMW Alpina vehicles within the existing cooperation until the end of 2025. The service, parts and accessories business for the existing and legacy BMW Alpina vehicle portfolio is also planned to continue at the Buchloe location in the long term.
