Prototypes of the first Neue Klasse series production model, the next-generation BMW iX3, are currently undergoing extensive testing in France. The new model will celebrate its world premiere at IAA Mobility in September 2025 before rolling off the production line at BMW's new plant in Hungary starting at the end of 2025.
BMW has also said that the iX3 - the first model of the new car generation - will introduce fundamental technology upgrades that will be seen in all future BMW models.
One of the new technologies is the BMW Panoramic iDrive, which consists of four elements: The BMW Panoramic Vision, 3D Head-Up display, a central display with matrix backlight technology, and a shy-tech multifunction steering wheel. It will run under the BMW Operating System X, also a new development in itself that offers extensive customisability and software updates, as well as intelligent support for the driver.
Also making its debut in the new BMW iX3 is the all-electric sixth-generation powertrain (Gen6), which will then be rolled out across all vehicle segments. By using an 800V system that supports 400kW of DC fast charging, it can potentially add 350km of WLTP range in just 10 minutes of charging.
In addition, the "superbrain", coined by BMW as the Heart of Joy in the Neue Klasse, promises to raise driving dynamics to a new level. Together with the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack, the Heart of Joy is pivotal to powertrain, brakes, recuperation, and sub-functions of the steering system. It processes information ten times faster than previous systems and therefore responds more directly than ever to the driver's commands.
The basic model of the BMW iX3 will offer safety functions like including change warning, road priority warning, safe exit, and assisted view. Safe exit uses side-mounted radars to warn of approaching objects. The new Assisted View shows the latest driving situation precisely and in detail alternatively in the Central Display, the Panoramic Vision, or the 3D Head-Up Display.
Thanks to the all-new electronics and software architecture with four superbrains (high-performance computers), the new BMW iX3 is now noticeably more intelligent in everyday situations. In addition, thanks to its powerful BMW Cloud, the new electronics and software architecture of the new vehicle generation is ready for numerous smart features, which customers can benefit from via over-the-air updates after the market launch.
