BMW marks the close of sixth-gen M3 with a special model

BMW will be marking the close of the M3’s sixth gen with a special, limited-edition model built for maximum driver involvement: The 2027 BMW M3 CS Handschalter.
This model is said to pair the lightweight construction and track-ready chassis tuning of BMW CS models with the added engagement of a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Adhering to the aggressive design template adorning previous BMW CS models, the Handschalter features exposed carbon fibre surfaces for the roof, the two channels running the length of the hood, the front splitter, front air intakes, M exterior mirror caps, rear spoiler, and rear apron combined with side skirts and M gills in high-gloss black.
The Handschalter sports the signature CS frameless BMW kidney grille with pared-back styling, red contour lines, and an "M3 CS" badge on the upper of the two horizontal grille bars. Its angular daytime running light elements illuminate in yellow - rather than white - during the unlock sequence as well as while driving.
Four exterior metallic finishes are available for the special model: Isle of Man Green, Black Sapphire, Imola Red, and Techno Violet.
And despite a focus on drivability, the Handschalter limited-edition model doesn't skimp on comfort. The list of standard equipment includes Comfort Access, dual-zone automatic climate control, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, Park Distance Control, Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and the Speed Limit Info system.
M Carbon bucket seats - finished in Anthracite Full Merino leather with CS-exclusive Mugello Red accents - come as standard and are heated and electrically adjustable, while an optional Daily Driver Package adds a power-operated trunk lid and Head-Up Display.
Powering the car is a S58 inline six-cylinder, 3.0-litre engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. This gives the Handschalter a power output of 467bhp and 551Nm of torque, which in turn allows for a century sprint timing of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 290km/h with the standard M Driver's package.
The 2027 BMW M3 CS Handschalter will be built in very limited numbers starting in July, with deliveries expected to commence in Q4 2026. It will make its public debut at the All-BMW Petersen Cruise-In 2026, which is held at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on 23 May.
