The models are expected to have a standard 4.4 litre twin-turborcharged V8 petrol engine that produces 407bhp and 600Nm of torque, as well as an electric motor that has 20bhp and 210Nm of torque.
The hybrid system will allow the cars to be powered by the electric motor alone, like the Toyota Prius, or combined with the V8 engines. BMW officials claimed that the system is expected to increase fuel-economy by around 10 to 15 percent over a conventionally-powered model.
BMW will also unveil a new eco-friendly sports car concept called the EfficientDynamics Vision, while other new models to be launched at Frankfurt include the 5-Series Gran Turismo and the X1 SUV.
BMW also announced that as a first time for the Frankfurt Motor Show, all three brands of the group (BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce) will be presented under one roof. MINI is expected to showcase the 50 Camden and 50 Mayfair, while Rolls-Royce will debut the much awaited Ghost sedan.
