Boy hit by car picks himself up and leaves scene

A boy who dashed across a road in Jurong West flew a short distance after being hit by a passing vehicle. But the primary school boy did not appear to be seriously hurt and quickly picked himself up, going by video footage uploaded to social media. In fact, he left the scene before a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) ambulance arrived.

The SCDF said it received a call for assistance at about 5:00pm on Tuesday. But the caller later told SCDF that the boy had already left the scene at Jurong West Street 81. The pupil's school, which declined to be named, said the boy "received treatment in the hospital and is resting well at home". "The school's primary concern is the well-being of the student and we are working with his parents to ensure that the necessary support and assistance is given," it said, declining to reveal the boy's age or say whether the car driver had provided any help.

Some netizens blamed the driver but Christopher Bong said on citizen journalism site Stomp, "It is... easy to cast blame when it is the negligence of the parents to inculcate road safety... it is not fair to blame drivers all the time."

Tutor Jeffery Lim, 23, who lives nearby, said it can be inconvenient for pedestrians to get to the bus stop across the road as the traffic- light crossing is a five to 10-minute walk from the accident site. "It can get very busy on this road... and people run (across) for the bus."
