Bugatti builds one-off Chiron Super Sport Golden Era

Bugatti has revealed a new one-off Chiron Super Sport 'Golden Era', built to mark the intricate engineering of the W16 engine.

The special car is said to be the most demanding piece of tailored personalisation work the Bugatti design team has yet worked on, commissioned by one customer that wanted a car that marked the W16 engine as a landmark moment in the world of the automobile.

A total of 19 cars feature on the driver's side of the Chiron Super Sport Golden Era, tracing the firm's icons from the EB110 onward

The Bugatti design team thus had to comb through Bugatti's history to select a few landmark moments, including events that surrounded the lives of Ettore Bugatti, Jean Bugatti and Roland Bugatti, which really marked the first golden era for the brand.

The team also picked out some modern icons from the modern Bugatti, and from there, proposed a concept featuring 45 sketches of the brand's icons that would be hand-drawn directly onto the car itself, which the customer fell in love with.

The Type 35, Type 57 SC Atlantic, and the Type 41 Royale all feature on the passenger side door panel

The Chiron Super Sport Golden Era thus sports 26 hand-drawn sketches on its passenger side, with icons including the Type 41 Royale - lauded as the most luxurious car when revealed in 1926 - and the Type 57 SC Atlantic, widely regarded as the most beautiful car ever designed. 

On the driver's side, 19 sketches portray the rebirth and enduring success of Bugatti since 1987, tracing from the EB110, through the Veyron and Chiron. A beautifully simple representation of the 3,712 individual components that come together to create the legendary W16 engine also takes its place as a part of the masterpiece.

In the cabin, the six aforementioned Bugatti icons also feature on the car's door panels, hand-applied with a bespoke paint and fine paint brush.
