Burst pipe causes flooding at Bencoolen MRT station

All new MRT stations are protected against floods caused by freak storms. But the Bencoolen MRT station on the yet-to-open Downtown Line 3 was partially submerged on Monday, when a water pipe burst.
The Straits Times understands the pipe burst in the early afternoon, but has since been rectified. Video clips showed the water falling like rain in the facility, with close-ups of the defective pipe. The Land Transport Authority is said to be still investigating what caused the defect in the new station, while contractors are mopping the place and assessing damage caused by the water.
The new line is slated to be opened by the fourth quarter of this year. It connects the city in River Valley to the Expo station in the east.
