British automobile manufacturer Caterham has announced that Yamaha Motor, a prominent Japanese mobility manufacturer, has joined as a development partner for its all-new electric sports coupe, Project V. Yamaha will be providing its latest e-axle to the prototype model.
A year after the design concept was unveiled at Goodwood Festival of Speed, and later at Tokyo Auto Salon, Caterham is moving to the next step in its plans to shepherd the car into the commercial market and production.
Project V is expected to be able to go from 0-100km/h in under 4.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 230km/h. Powered by a 55kWh battery, the car is expected to have a maximum range of 400km.
Project V will showcase a lightweight compact electric powertrain developed by Yamaha, staying true to the Caterham DNA of lightweight, simple and fun-to-drive cars. Furthermore, Yamaha will also provide its technology and expertise in vehicle motion control.
Project V is being developed under the Caterham brand, part of VT Holdings based in Nagoya, Japan. It is slated to be completed by mid-2025.
The alliance with Yamaha will not just deliver a powertrain to ally Caterham's expectations of what its products should be, but will also assuredly hasten Project V to the market.
