At The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering, Chevrolet debut two Corvette concept cars: The Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo (VGT). While not intended for production, the pair will serve as inspiration to inform Corvette design language for years to come.
The electric Corvette CX concept's athletic exterior design feature quintessential Corvette hallmarks such as a forward-lunging nose, the pronounced horizontal "chine" line delineating the upper and lower bodywork, and the dual-element taillights. It features an all-wheel-drive system with four motors powering each wheel and offering a total output of more than 1,973bhp, while its 90kWh battery is mounted in the chassis for front-rear weight distribution.
Inside, its forward-opening fighter-jet-style canopy raises automatically upon approach. It seats are finished in Inferno Red ballistic textile, while the digital windscreen transforms the windshield into an immersive surround display with real-time performance data. Every major control is elegantly integrated into the steering wheel, keeping the driver's focus on the road ahead.
As for the CX.R VGT, the concept was created exclusively for track competition and honours the Corvette GT racecars of yesteryear with its yellow and black colour scheme. To emphasise its all-out focus on performance, the CX.R VGT features more prominent active aero features, a lower ride height, and reduced weight across its body.
Inside, its dashboard consists of lightweight raw carbon fibre weave, while the seating uses suede-wrapped foam inserts for grip and larger shoulder and headrest pads for head and neck support.
In terms of performance, the CX.R VGT has a 2.0-litre V8 engine that drives the rear wheels and, when combined with its three electric motors powering both front wheels and its gearbox, contribute to a total system output of 1,973bhp.
Chevrolet has said that it will make both the roadgoing CX and the CX.R VGT racecar concepts available for fans to drive virtually in Gran Turismo 7 in the near future.
