Chinese and Japanese gardens to host first public trial for driverless vehicles
28 May 2014|4,807 views
Singapore's first driverless vehicles for the public will go on trial at the Chinese and Japanese gardens in Jurong.
Two golf buggies are fitted with equipment, worth up to $30,000 each, that allows them to 'self drive' according to pre-programmed routes and avoid collision. They will ply the footpaths at the two gardens around the lakes of Jurong, which measure around the size of 26 football pitches.
The Straits Times understands that the rides will be open to public free of charge to allow Singaporeans to have a taste of such mode of futuristic transport. There are also sources saying that more buggies will be deployed at Jurong East station to shuttle commuters to nearby amenities.
