The latest recall is due to what Chrysler calls "an improperly routed wire harness (which) may have a condition where the sliding door hinge bracket can make contact and wear through the wire insulation." If the wiring insulation wears down enough, a short circuit could occur inside the door, overheating the latch and possibly causing a fire.
Up to 285,000 Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country MPVs made from 2007 to 2009 are affected by the latest recall exercise, and owners of affected vans will be notified by Chrysler and advised to take their cars to their nearest dealer for a free repair.
