Citroen has presented the Ami for All concept, a modified Citroen Ami designed to give persons with disabilities who no longer have the use of at least one lower limb, and particularly those in wheelchairs, greater mobility and autonomy.
The concept does this by offering wider opening doors, to allow easier ingress and egress. A removable, retractable shelf, alongside a strap fixed to the top of the interior door frame will allow users to move from the wheelchair to the driver's seat.
The wheelchair can then either be placed in the passenger compartment, secured in place by a specific seatbelt, and with its wheels have been removed and stored in the footwell using a specially designed strap.
If, however, a passenger is travelling along with the user, the wheelchair can additionally be placed on an aluminium luggage rack at the rear of the Ami for All, covered from the elements by a protective tarpaulin. Once the two have arrived at their destination, the wheelchair will then have to be installed by the passenger.
Users of the Ami for all will be able to utilise a mechanical level to control the acceleration and braking of the vehicle in place of the accelerator and brake pedal, although Citroen has left these operational.
