Sebastien Loeb, Daniel Elena and the Citroen Total World Rally Team extended their unbeaten run in the 2009 World Rally Championship with their fourth win in a row - and 51st world class success - at Rally Portugal over the weekend.
This latest victory also puts Sebastien in a commanding position in the driver's championship with a perfect maximum score of 40 points. Dani Sordo and Marc Marti were also in fine form in the Algarve as they picked up their second podium finish of the year, putting Citroen further ahead at the top of the Manufacturers' standings.
"This result takes our score to four wins from four rounds, which is the best start to a season we have ever made," remarked Sebastien Loeb. "As ever, it wasn't an easy weekend. We made a small error on Day 1 which forced us to push hard to make up for lost ground, but the second leg went perfectly for us."
Dani Sordo, who finished in third place, was happy to have mixed with the front-runners over the three-day event. With poor visibility causing a problem on the Sunday, he commented; "Even with the cars starting every two minutes, the dust just wasn't clearing. We also suffered from dust getting in our C4 after the sill was slightly damaged by a stone. As soon as it became clear that I wouldn't be able to catch Mikko, I decided not to take any risks. I felt very comfortable with my car throughout the rally, and that's a good omen for the rounds which come next."
The next event will be Rally Argentina from 24th-26th April.
