Commuters commented that there are shorter waiting times for buses after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that it had added 250 buses to ply our roads.
However, commuters are still facing tight situations as buses are still crowded and there is a lack of seats.
The Straits Times conducted a survey on 60 commuters taking bus services 72, 106 and 922 between 7:30am and 9:00am. These three services have benefitted from the $1.1 million Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP).
Most of those spoken agreed that waiting times have been shortened. For instance, waiting time for bus service 106, which runs from Bukit Batok interchange to Shenton Way, used to take 20 minutes. Now, the waiting time has been reduced to seven minutes.
Still, there were feedbacks of overcrowding on bus services 72 and 106.
LTA said that only 10 percent of the budgeted $1.1 million has been spent so far.
A spokesperson added that the enhancements will gain pace in several areas. In the coming months, more buses will be added to another 20 existing routes. Two trunk services will also be created by the end of this year for residents in Taman Jurong and Bukit Panjang.
