The Caliber crossover was conceived a replacement for the Neon sedan back in 2006, when Chrysler was still in the hands of Mercedes-Benz’s parent company Daimler, but the car has seen lacklustre sales since its launch.According to sources, Chrysler, now under the control of Fiat, has informed dealers that it will stop production of the Caliber on 23 November 2011. The move comes after Fiat made only minor changes to the Caliber, in the form of a re-tuned steering system and improved equipment features, earlier this year.
Chrysler is said to be readying a replacement of the Caliber, to be introduced at the Detroit Motor Show in 2012. The car is expected to be a four-door compact sedan that is based on the platform of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, and powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine sourced from Fiat.
