Dodge Journey to be sold in Europe as the Fiat Freemont

The move is the result of Fiat's 20 percent stake of Chrysler, and the company will stop selling the Dodge Journey in its original form in Europe. The rebadged Fiat Freemont is expected to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year, and go on sale across Europe by June. The Freemont will be built alongside the Journey at Chrysler's factory in Toluca, Mexico

The changes are expected to be minor, with the only major difference being that the Freemont will get a new 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine from Fiat that produces 170bhp, instead of the existing one that produces 140bhp that the Dodge Journey currently uses.

The rebadged Fiat Freemont is expected to replace the Fiat Ulysee MPV in Fiat's line-up. Dodge sold 8400 Journeys across Europe last year, and the company believes that the rebadged model, allied with access to Fiat's pan-European dealer network and the new diesel engine, will help boost sales of the crossover.
