Driver in hit-and-run arrested

The Police have arrested the tipper truck driver involved in a hit-and-run accident, which caused the death of a pedestrian.

81-year old Chin Siat Keow was hit near the junction of Henderson Road and Jalan Bukit Merah at around 12:40pm on Saturday. Chinese evening papers Shin Min Daily News reported that the retired nurse was found unconscious, and died of multiple injuries at the Singapore General Hospital at around 9:25pm.

There has been increasing concern over road safety, especially with regards to heavy vehicles. Statistics from the Traffic Police has revealed that heavy vehicles were involved in around 20 percent of fatal accidents last year.
