Another Chinese car brand is gearing up for landfall in Singapore - and this time, it's not tech-heavy or budget-friendly EVs that are on the cards, but opulent and, might we say, truly presidential machines.
Eurokars Group has announced that it is expanding its portfolio of brands in Singapore with the distributorship of Hongqi: A luxury car brand owned by China's state-owned FAW Group. The brand is slated for arrival in the first half of 2026, with a dedicated Hongqi showroom located along Leng Kee Road already in the works.
Hongqi, whose name translates into 'Red Flag' in English, is perhaps best known for making the state car(s) in which Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, is ferried around both within China and on his foreign state visits. Established all the way back in 1958, the brand is also said to hold the distinction of being China's oldest passenger car manufacturer.
But presidential limos aside, Hongqi's lineup in China spans a diverse lineup that runs the gamut from compact cars to full-sized luxury SUVs. It's not just fully electric cars that it manufactures too, but also purely combustion-powered ones, as well as plug-in hybrids.
As it prepares to usher the brand into Singapore, Eurokars Group has already outlined plans to launch a "comprehensive range of Hongqi models". Categorised into the 'Luxury', 'Premium' and 'Mainstream' series, these will feature a mix of powertrain options beyond just electric vehicles (EVs).
Spearheading the lineup in the initial phase will be the E-HS9, a full-sized luxury electric SUV, followed by the the G117, a premium mid-sized SUV, as well as the E007 electric SUV that was first unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show.
The news of Hongqi's impending arrival comes as Eurokars Group celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025. It also expands the Group's impressive portfolio of high-end and high-performance marques in Singapore, which already includes the likes of BMW, Rolls-Royce, McLaren and Pagani.
Reflecting on the news, Mr Karsono Kwee, Executive Chairman of Eurokars Group, shared his excitement at welcoming Hongqi to the Eurokars family on its 40th anniversary, before continuing, "With our extensive experience representing esteemed automotive brands, our conviction in sustainable mobility, and a customer-focused approach rooted in genuine passion, we are confident in our ability to cultivate and grow the Hongqi brand in Singapore."
